Review of Ritual Prenatal Vitamins

My third pregnancy was by far my easiest, and I think it’s because I found the right prenatal vitamin.

You took the test and got the results: you are pregnant!

After the initial surprise and confirmation from a medical professional, the mix of emotions (you know, that unique mix of excitement and anxiety) sets in.

The best remedy? Make a plan. And I don’t mean start a baby registry. First, make a plan to take care of yourself.

Before you start shopping for new maternity clothes and making that baby board on Pinterest, you need to start investing in things that can help you feel your best for the next 9 months.

This is especially true if this is not your first pregnancy.

Your life is not going to slow down just because you got pregnant. Now is the time to increase your investment in health. And trust me, the best investment you can make is a quality prenatal vitamin.

For my first two pregnancies, I bought the cheapest prenatal vitamin in the store. I thought it was wiser to spend my money on the equipment we would need, like a crib.

But the truth is that I felt very bad. I had low energy, was so sick and felt miserable, all because my health was not a priority. It wasn’t until my third pregnancy that I felt my best.

I really believe it’s because I quit taking any prenatal vitamin on sale, just to tick the “I took my prenatals” box, and started investing in a prenatal vitamin instead of quality: Ritual Essential Prenatal.

As a first-time mother, I didn’t know what I didn’t know. But hindsight is 20/20.

My first two pregnancies were a mess. I was nauseous, weak and rather unhappy from the moment of conception until the end.

My memory of carrying my two daughters is plagued with exhaustion, inability to sleep and the worst nausea you can imagine – the kind where you pull over on the side of the road to vomit.

Nobody deserves this.

When I found out I was pregnant with my third child, I knew I needed all the help I could get to keep my energy up. I had two children and a part-time job that wasn’t going to stop.

As soon as I saw that second line on the pregnancy test, I went straight to finding ways to keep my energy up. Of course, there were plenty of suggestions that just didn’t apply to me – going to bed early doesn’t work when you’re working and have two preschoolers.

The best advice I’ve found? Make your health the top priority.

I knew I had to invest in my health first in order to take on all of my responsibilities, and the first choice I had to make was which prenatal vitamin I was going to take.

With all of this in mind, I decided to give Ritual a try.

I originally heard about Ritual vitamins from a moms group where everyone swore by them. But to be honest with you, what appealed to me the most was the way the pill capsule was designed.

Ritual vitamin capsules are made with a double layer designed in such a way that it does not completely dissolve until it is in your small intestine (1).

This is intended to reduce nausea and help your body absorb the most nutrients – two very important considerations when growing a toddler.

My third pregnancy was more of a surprise pregnancy, so I only started taking Ritual prenatal vitamins after I found out I was pregnant (about 6 weeks).

However, once I started taking them every morning, I started feeling better within a few days. I had more energy, less pain, and the ability to sleep more easily at night.

My nausea went down and my energy went up – which was exactly what I needed, since I had two preschoolers that I had to keep track of.

The purpose of a prenatal vitamin is to help fuel your body with all the essential nutrients you need to function while growing another human body (2, 3).

Prenatal vitamins support healthy neural tube development for your growing baby, as well as a healthy birth weight (2, 4).

But they also help keep you from feeling drained and drained by maintaining your nutrient stores. Otherwise, all good things go to building a healthy baby, leaving you with whatever is left.

Still, it can be hard to justify the cost of a quality vitamin when you can spend a fraction of the price at your local pharmacy. And the truth is, if you’re anything like me, you probably don’t know what to look for in a prenatal vitamin.

If you are looking for a quality prenatal vitamin, Ritual should be at the top of your list.

These supplements are suitable for vegans and do not contain gluten or major allergens. They are therefore a good option if you suffer from food allergies or intolerances.

Physically and otherwise, Ritual is one of the most transparent supplement companies. Not only are their capsules transparent, but their website lets you track where the nutrients are coming from.

This visible supply chain helps you know what you’re putting into your body with their “Made Traceable” program (5).

B12, for example, comes from Bridgeport, Connecticut, and iodine is made in Pisticci, Italy. How cool is that?

Of course, Essential Prenatal contains the essential nutrients you need to thrive during pregnancy and help your baby grow, from choline to omega-3 docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

In the three pregnancies I’ve had, I can tell you that the difference between a quality prenatal vitamin like Ritual Essential Prenatal and a drugstore brand was paramount to me.

If you’re hoping to conserve energy and reduce nausea as your baby develops, I can’t recommend Ritual Essential Prenatal Vitamins highly enough.

Try them and thank me later.
