Halsey’s stress on her prenatal vitamins and the pressure of “pregnancy perfection” – SheKnows
For many people, pregnancy can be a time when there is a lot of extra attention on your body. It can be positive for some people (feeling more connected to their body, learning new things about themselves and how they need and want to take care of themselves) and also quite anxious for others. (having a lot of people who aren’t your doctor offering unsolicited opinions, a lot of frantic Google searches, the pressure you feel to take care of your body in a particular way, etc.) – and that’s what last as Halsey, who graced the cover of Seduce during their pregnancy, turned out in charming detail but far too real.
Particularly when it comes to taking prenatal vitamins, the singer said she felt horrible when their body and their nausea experience was just right. not allowing to stick to this routine.
“I took them for the first two months, then the vomiting got really bad, and I had to make a choice between taking my prenatal and throwing up or maintaining the nutrients I managed to eat that day,” he said. Halsey said. Seduce. “I was taking so many drugs -… all those anti-nausea and anti-vomiting drugs. I went to my doctor crying, and I was like, “I haven’t had my prenatal for six weeks. Is my baby okay?”
There are many reasons that different people experience extreme nausea or morning sickness during pregnancy and as not their doctor, it is not for us to speculate on how or why their bodies went through what they had. did (although Halsey told the magazine that mom and baby both got a good health certificate from their doctors, and we’re excited to hear!). It was, however, the all-too-familiar guilt of a mother – feeling the impossible pressure to follow a strict, prescriptive pattern of ‘the right thing’ while trying to conceive, during pregnancy or just while parenting – that really hit home. at home.
“I was so angry with myself. You got a fucking job! A job ! Take your prenatal care! Your body does everything else, you can’t even do that, ”Halsey said. “I felt like such a failure.”
But, of course, they are not and have not been a failure! And they even go so far as to say that they absolutely had this vision (maybe a little rosy) of how they would function during pregnancy in the early stages of pregnancy, and instead had to accept a less Instagram-worthy one and more “get it done” sort of a route to childbirth.
“When this pregnancy started I was like, ‘You’re going to do yoga and eat flaxseeds. You’re going to use essential oils and hypnobirth and meditate and fuck journal every day,” Halsey said, quickly adding : “I didn’t do any of those things. Zero. Nothing. I ate cookies and had a bagel every day for the first five months of my pregnancy.”
While there are always times when we all think of ourselves as the yoga and flaxseed version of ourselves (the one who has time to make fresh green juice and actually loves the taste), it is so important to know that during pregnancy, like any other part of a person’s health journey, it is important to leave room for yourself not to live up to impossible expectations and that you certainly do not need to play for someone else.
